The man who became a household name during the 2008 election is facing backlash for comments he made in an open letter to the families of the victims in the University of California shooting.
Samuel Wurzelbacher, better known as Joe the Plumber, writes "I am sorry you lost your child" he continues, " I, myself, have a son and daughter and the one thing I never want to go through, is what you are going through right now. But, as harsh as this sounds, your dead kids don't trump my constitutional rights."
His open letter, published on the conservative blog "Barbwire," comes one day after Richard Martinez, the father of one of the victims, spoke out blaming the NRA and politicians for his son's death.
Samuel says he can't take a step in Martinez's shoes, but that he will continue to speak out for his right to own a gun.
Last Friday, Elliot Rodger first stabbed his three roommates to death before he headed toward a sorority house. There, he shot and killed two girls who were passing by. Then, he took off and headed toward a pizza restaurant and open fired. One person, Martinez's only son Christopher, was killed.
