NASHVILLE, Tenn. - American Idol continues with auditions in Atlanta tomorrow night, but tonight the show stopped in Detroit. Plenty of good and bad talent filled tonight's episode. Brian Mansfield from USA TODAY joined us in the studio to talk about the highlights from Michigan. Tonight there was a lot of amazing, young talent. We start off with 16 year old Malaya Watson singing "Ain't No Way" by Aretha Franklin. Watson is a Junior and plays tuba in her high school band. She got 3 "yes" votes from the judges, getting her Hollywood ticket to the next round. Next we check out 18 year old Brandy Neelly from Louisville, Kentucky singing "Wanted" by Hunter Hayes. Brandy Neelly got the golden Hollywood ticket, but this isn't the first time Brandy auditioned for American Idol. Brian actually met her when she auditioned in Nashville a couple of years ago.
Finally, we take a look at one of the older singers who auditioned in Detroit. 26 year old Maurice Townsend singing "So High". Maurice Townsend is a music minister and a father of 4. His wife and kids joined him at the auditions and are so adorable. Thank you to Brian and we hope to see him back here soon as Season 13 continues of American Idol. Tomorrow, tune into FOX17 THIS MORNING to find out about one Midstate man's journey trying out for American Idol.
We'll also bring you his story after the Atlanta auditions tomorrow night on FOX17 NEWS.
