ROCK/ALTERNATIVE: U2 WIN BATTLE TO REDEVELOP HOTEL
DUBLIN, Ireland (AP) -- Bono and The Edge of U2 have won a four-year legal battle to turn an old-fashioned hotel into a futuristic landmark. Ireland's planning board approved a 235 million-dollar plan to gut the Clarence Hotel in Dublin, drastically expand it and put a floodlit glass atrium on top that's been known as "the flying saucer." The move was opposed by some who wanted to preserve Dublin's architectural heritage. U2 are also planning to build the U2 Tower, with their recording studios on top of what will become Ireland's tallest building. That's set to be built in Dublin by 2012.
