Nashville -- Our Jefferson Awards celebrate unsung heroes, people in the community making a difference far from the spotlight.  Tommy Ealey lives in Wilson County, but for the past two decades he has been saving lives all over our region through his regular donations at the Red Cross.

Friday marked Ealey's 395 donation.  For the past several years, he's been coming in twice a month to donate blood platelets.  Each donation can save three lives.  This Summer, Ealey expects to cross the fifty gallon mark as a donor.  He'll be the first person from Wilson County to earn that distinction.

Ealey is so dedicated, the Red Cross says he kept a donation appointment in December the day after losing his wife to a heart attack.  Tommy Ealey is a community hero and Fox 17 is proud to make him our Jefferson Award recipient for March.
