CONSUMER ALERT: Sales May Change Ahead of Tax Free Weekend
WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WZTV)—Some retailers may end certain sales ahead of tax free weekend.
Merchandise that is exempt from Tennessee sales tax between Friday July 29 and Sunday July 31 includes clothes less than $100, school supplies less than $100 and computers and tablets less than $1,500.
FOX 17 wanted to know what may be better to buy now versus later.
Current sales at Best Buy in Brentwood will only last through Thursday. Sales will change Friday—but store associates would not disclose to FOX 17 what those sales will be.
For example, a $1,449.99 computer marked down to $1,249.99 is a $200 savings. If that computer returns to full price by Friday, it will only mean a sales tax savings of $138.74.
Best Buy customers who are students with an .edu email address are eligible for an in-store coupon until August 6.
Current sales at Target in Brentwood are valid through Saturday. It is corporate policy to change store sales every Sunday—and those sales are not disclosed to customers until Sunday.
This week, Target customers can be certain they’ll get both a store and tax discount on Friday and Saturday.
Right now, children’s jeans and pants at Target are $10—off $2.99 to $3.99 a pair, or 23 to 29 percent.
Depending on the county, sales tax in Tennessee ranges from 7 to 9.75 percent.
