CODE YELLOW: Wintry Mix Possible

A wintry mix is possible Thursday morning. It could cause minor problems in the morning commute. We're not expecting a lot of precipitation, but even a light drizzle with temperatures around the freezing mark could cause some slick spots.

Coming and Going - 04/25/14

I registered my son for kindergarten today.  He was so excited to be in a big school like that.  We saw a large picture of the entire student body on the wall next to the office.  My little guy said there must be 165 children.  I told him there might be even more than that.  You can't help but smile at the enthusiasm.
I topped this blog entry with "coming and going" because our oldest child, my daughter, is less than two weeks from her high school graduation.  So this Fall we'll send one to kindergarten and one to college.  Good times on both fronts.  Everyone is healthy and we are blessed.

FRANCE-FROZEN PROPOSAL

PARIS (AP) -- It's a frozen proposal -- at one of the most romantic spots in Paris. An AP photographer happened to be snapping tourists at the Eiffel Tower's Christmas ice-rink, when Jon McAchran of Virginia Beach, Virginia, popped the question. He got down on one knee on the ice -- and presented some ice to girlfriend Ashley Marie Kimberl. It was a sparkling diamond engagement ring. Kimberl tells the AP, "We're getting married!" The bride-to-be notes their first date was at an ice-rink in Virginia.

ANGRY BIRDS LAWSUIT

SEATTLE (AP) -- A Seattle artist is angry -- over Angry Birds. Juli Adams designed her Angry Birds pet toys in 2006 for The Hartz Mountain Corporation. She claims she was cheated out of millions when the company licensed Angry Birds to the makers of the insanely popular video game. Now, Adams has won a round in federal court. A judge has refused to toss the lawsuit, as requested by the company. Adams says she came up with Angry Birds based on the idea of a plush toy that wouldn't be pleased about being attacked by her cats.

PENGUIN CAM

PITTSBURGH (AP) -- Cybersurfers are checking out some cute chicks. They're baby penguins at the National Aviary in Pittsburgh. A webcam at the aviary captured the first of two African penguins hatching. A second egg is expected to hatch this week. Papa penguin is named Sidney, after Sidney Crosby, the star of the Pittsburgh Penguins NHL team. Aviary officials say Sidney and penguin partner Bette have successfully bred two previous sets of chicks.

MAN IN CEILING

DENVER (AP) -- Just dropping-in has landed a man in legal trouble. Prosecutors in Denver are charging Stephen Graves with burglary and criminal mischief. Authorities say he crashed through the ceiling of a restaurant, triggering a flood, then got trapped in a wall and had to be rescued. Prosecutors say Graves was living secretly in the rafters above the Yard House restaurant.
